Homer Haworth will get his chance to play major league baseball without having t take a course of Instruction in the.Paciflo Coast league. This much was decided yesterday, .when Portland sold the. youngster to tbe Cleveland club which has been after the young slugger all' season, as announced In last' nighfs Sporting' Extra. ' Haworth was to have joined the Coast club at the close of the North western league' season,' according ,to McCredle's "plans, but the Beaver chief tain figured that he could let the boy go right up to Cleveland, Inasmuch as he has two sterling catchers in Fred Carlach. and Gua Fisher, and doesn't really need Haworth. Cleveland ls ;very much lir need of a hard hitting backstop of tbe left, hand ed variety, and Haworth'ahould fit in nicely..: Those who have seen his work this year say-that h is the cream of Ojtha catchers of the Northwestern 'oasuo, uia a truu wim mo majors is what he needs. - When Haworth was turned over to the .Victoria club last fall there - was a heavy- string attached to htm, and It la well -that McCredle -took- the pre caution 5 Half a .tionen major 'league cluba have been after Homer, and. that prompted Cleveland to get busy and purchase him before- the drafting sea son -opened. - ;., . - SEALS WALLOP B.
