Barclay foe personal injury damages In which was awarded 116,000 damages a year ago. Barclay was a former police captain during the Pennoyer administration, and at the time of his injury was a foreman of construction for the railroad. He jumped from a caboose. on which ht was riding on October 29, 1913, and al leged Injuries to his leg as the result. Affidavits of former Police Chief John Mlnto and others that Barclay was a cripple before the alleged injury were the basis of the granting of the new trial by Judge McGinn. years. April 12. Hickman of this city has been given a patent for a new type of stove lid lifter. The new lifter is proposed to prevent lids from teing dropped from the holder when being lifted. Auxiliary Planning Big Festival Parade Military, Industrial and Fraternal Pro cession to Be Great Feature This Season; Officers Are Sleeted, Arrangements for the fraternal, military and Industrial parade, which will be one of the big features of the Rose Festival, will be made by the Rose Festival auxiliary, organized at a meeting at the Multnomah last night. Fifty-one clvio and fraternal organiza tions were presented. Dr. A. K. Higgs of Multnomah camp. Woodmen of the World, was elected chairman of the auxiliary, and Mrs. Harriet Hendee of Sumner Women's Relief corps, secre tary. A committee of five to handle the arrangements for the parade will be appointed by Chairman Higgs. The auxiliary will meet next Wednesday night at the Multnomah. Russell Low- ry, deputy v governor or the federal reserve bank at San Francisco, stopped in Eugene last night on his way to Portland and Puget Sound and was given a banquet by the local bankers. Mr. Lowry addressed the gathering during the course of the banquet. Will Speak on World Faaca, Roy Wilhelm, a wholesale coffee man of New Tork, who has taken a prominent part in the world peace movement in this country, will speak at 8 o'clock tonight in the children's room of tlie ' Central library on the "Economics of Peace." Mr. Wilhelm is in Portland en route to the International Bahai congress to be held in Han Francisco. His talk here is to be given under the auspices of Portland followers of the Balial world peace movement. The public is Invited. Tenny disclosed the fact that em bolism, or a blood clot, was primarily the cause of death of Mrs. James Gpkey of 959 Yale street. Bhe died while in the office of Drs. Dickson. Coghlan & Davis, in the Selling build ing. No Inquest is to be held. Mrs. Qokey was 39 years old, and leaves - her widower and one daughter. Inheritance Tax rixed Augusta H. McCormick ' was yesterday ordered by County Judge Cleeton to pay an Inher itance tax of $55.14 on 910,614.02 she reeeives from the estate of her father. If. W. McCorraiek. who died April 11, .1911. The widow, Mr a. MeCormick, will pay no tax, as her share of the estate, $3213.04, comes within the )5000 exemptipn allowed by law. Gymnastic Exhibition. Under the direction of Miss Carin Degermark the women class members of the Peninsula park gymnasium are to give a gymnasium exhibition in the Penin sula park community building Friday night. An elaborate program has been prepared. The city park bureau Is to have supervision of the entertainment.
