ten with the rivers on the mountains

Nature's ebb and flow of lifof-nnri
times chisel on the peaks and in the
valleys, have created the conditions
of today -and have established in its
coursa the great Columbia and its
tributaries. The river has cleared
away the obstructions that men could
not have shaken; men are clearing
away the hindrances to -eommerciul
r navigation and from May 3-S we ceie-
brate the completion, dedication and
opening, of the Celilo canal.

agination. o!T the celebration fleet of
teauiprs that is to nlove from Lewis
' ton, Idaho, to Astoria at the Pacific:
ocean,, having as guide Frank J. Smith,
and endeavoring to point out, for the
interest of those ; who will actually
xnake the wonderful trip, the points
made attractive by legend, history and
commercial possibilities. ye arrived
last week at Island. Nil. 10, where the
x graves of the Siuicoes and Yakinias
are found.
On the north shore of the river in
this vicinity is xUderdalt, an, old trad
ing post. Two miles away is the au
lent battle ground whjere the allied
huuvoes and Yakinias met the reso
lute Ness i'eiccs in a fight that was
waged, stiihhoriijy for many days. Now

The Willows is- near -the mouth " of

the map by one of these cloudburut
