Generally; Only ' Limited Arrivals St&wn; Turkeys Are Drag on Market. Front street prices for chickens "are advanced again with the market very firm at the higher quotations. Best hens and springs are today quoted generally at 13c a pound. A few lots of poor stuff have been sold down to 12c. Receipts of chickens here since the week started have been very -disappointing and the market, after Its long period Qf weakness and almost general inactivity, is today the best for many months. One remarkable feature about the present poultry trade that no de mand Is showing; for dressed turkeys. Stocks are still held along the street from the holidays and there are no signs of any increase In activity. This is unusual. In most , cases even with liberal supplies during the holidays which was not shown this season there is usually quite a fair demand for dressed turkeys after the turn of the year. Rather good quality dressed turkeys are going begging along the street today at 17c to 19c a pound. NORTHWEST BAXK STATEMENT Portland Banks. In all 65.000 bushels of wheat were sold on the local exchange today with all prices sharply higher. Sales included: 6000 bushels February blue stem. $1.41; 35.000 bushels March bluestem. $1.43; 6000 bushels March bluestem. $1.44; 10,000 bushels May bluestem. $1.48; 5000 bushels February fortyfold, $1.40. and 5000 bushels February club. $1.38 per bushel. On the exchange today was estab lished a new high record for prompt oats with a sale of 100 tons at $32.25 and 200 tons February delivery at $33 a ton. A sale of 100 tons February brewing barley on the local exchange today at $29 a ton established a record In that line; There will be another advance of 20o a barrel in the price of flour. Action will probably be taken by Portland millers either this afternoon or to morrow. This would place the price of patent at $6.60. That an advance would be forced In the price of flour here in addition to the record figure of yesterday was known at the time that the first ad vance was made. Wheat is much high er than flour and for that reason mill ers are forced to revise their quota tions upward. Another advance of Sc -a bushel is being offered and paid for wheat at interior sections with confirmed busi ness there at $1.2501.26 a busfcel, which means $1.36 1.37 a bushel land ed on 'Portland'' tracks. While deferred delivery was sold at a higher price because of the extra carrying charges, the price paid in the interior today 13 again estaoiisning a new nign record. It is stated that only about 300,000 bushels of club wheat remain in farm ers' hands in Walla Walla county. Oats market is also firmer and high er with confirmed business in the in terior on the basis of $32 ton for spot uelivery with feed barley selling there on the basis of $28.50. Nov York, LOCAL BUSINESS NEWS Public Is Saving Its Prices Rising; Market Says Head of Local Trust Company. BRADSTREETS REPORT IS ENCOURAGING "Financial conditions have mended very rapidly during the past 0 days," says John A. Keating, president Lum bermen's Trust Co. "The public has been saving its money and is investing It; In securities, however, rather than in speculative ways. Our market, in the various places In which we sell se curities on the Pacific coast, has been' very good. There will not be enough boJs ot -the class dealt in here to sup ply the demand during the balance of the winter. Prices at which bonds are being sold are gradually rising. When t -1 Jond market began to pick np sev eral months ago, each locality bought its own securities, and the sfdvanee In price of local bonds waa, therefore, a little faster than the general market. There are very few corporation bonds being offered, but the public will not be able to buy as many municipal bonds as it wants and will turn Its attention next, to corporation bonds. I believe that 1915 will be a better year than last year, and the condi tions will grow closer and closer to the normal The country is working out its own salvation, and is finding it Can do a pretty fair business In spite of the European troubles."
