concert would be sufficient program
for one evening and when an educa
tional entertainment was suggested
some were Inclined to think that It
would not draw the crowds 'from the
other concert." It has been demons
trated that there are enough neoDle of
different tastes to make both accept

Railroadmen's Excursion Biggest,
The largest excursion ever sent to
the State Fair at Salem left by spe
cial train this morning. One thousand
Harriman club members, their wives
and women friends are making it a
State Fair holiday and as a conse
quence the Southern Pacific, O.-W, K,
& N. and Portland. Eugene & Eastern
offices are all closed. This contribu
tion of the Harriman lines to the
success of the State Fair is regarded
as significant of the interest by the

Tomorrow Is "Portland day" at the
Rodeo and Wasco county fair at The
Dalles, and in addiUon to the large

10 o'clock train tomorrow morning.
The majority of the crowd la expected
to leave, however, at 7:45. A round
trip fare of $3.40 has been arranged.
