the attention of a prominent young
man of the city and they became ac
quainted.. She liked the lure of the
night life and they "became "great pals.
But the girl, because she was unso
phisticated, knew not the danger which
threatened her until after she was res
cued from an embarrassing position by
her older and wiser sister. See the

Estate Talned at $24,000. Miss
Elizabeth Caples yesterday petitioned
for appointment as executrix of the
Will of her mother, Mrs. Nancy Caples,
who died July 17, leaving property es
timated by the petition to be worth
$24,000. To Jane Dodge and Olive
Hemlow, daughters, Mrs. Caples' left
$600 each. Eight grandchildren were
left nothing, as provision for them
was made during Mrs. Caples' life.
The residue of the estate was left to

Council Decides to
Raze Auditorium
Gipsy Smith Structure Will Be Ton
Bow&i Building Is Considered as a
' re Menace.
After weeks of delay, the city coun
cil this morning decided to tear down
the unsightly Gipsy Smith auditorium
which has cost the city $75 a month
the last year. The building is a large
frame structure- near Seventeenth and
Taylor streets, and has been considered
a fire menace . by adjoining property
owners ever - since It was erected.

pointment as administrator of the
estate of his brother, James B. Hous
ton. rwho died July 23. The petition
estimates the property to be worth
$1000 and states that three brothers,
two sisters and a nephew are the
heirs.

Husband Sued for Divorce. Mrs.
Anna Kersten yesterday filed suit for
divorce ' against Herman Kersten, al
leging that he spent but a few days of
each month at home while they wero ,
living in Bend. She says he put in
most 'of his time at Portland. They
were married June 6, 1907.
