At the WasTilng-ton High school Dr. Alan Welch Smith, elected last 'week to the school board, will present di plomas to 135 young graduates. W. H. Boyer will have charge of an extensive musical program, while President W. J. Kerr of the Oregon Agricultural college will address the class. Following Is the program: Processional, by the girls' chorus, accompanying the class; song, by the glrlV chorus; address to the class, by President W. J. Kerr. Oregon Agricul tural "college; presentation of medal of the Federated German 8peaklng socie ties for the greatest proficiency in . German, and presentation of the W. B. 'Wells prise for the best work done on The Lens, the school paper; musi cal selection, by Boys' Glee club and girls chorus; presentation of diplomas by Dr. Smith ; selection, by girls' cho rus; singing of "Auld Lang Syne," by the class; recessional. At Jefferson. President P. I Camp bell of the University of Oregon will npea'k, while Judge M. G. Munly, chair man of, the school board, will present the diplomas to a class of over 100. Marshal Succumbs to Keart Disease, After Illness of V ear ly Two Tears Aged 46 Tears. Former - United States Marshal El mer B. Colwell died at 7:30 o'clock last night at his residence, 775 Cor bett street, of heart trouble, following an illness of two years. Up to October. 1912. Mr. Colwell en Joyed good health, but in that month was stricken with heart trouble while In the Progressive party headquarters in the Oregon hotel. He never fully recovered. Mr. Colwell was 48 years of age, and native of Millport, Pa. Most of his early life was spent in Michigan, where he was engaged In the extract business with his rather. He was married in Detroit to Miss Eleanor Teed In 1890. He first came to the northwest in 1188, settling In Skamokawa, Wash., where he engaged In the lumber busi ness wltn his father and uncle. He was elected auditor of Wahiakum county In 1895, and reelected in 1897. Mr. Colwell came to Portland in 1900 as secretary-treasurer of the Multnomah Trunk & Box company. He was elected representative from Multnomah county In 1904, and In 1910 was appointed United States marshal for Oregon by President Taft, suc ceeding the late C. J. Reed. He served during the years 1910 and 1911. Mr. .Colwell owed his appointment to Hen ry Waldo- Coe, who was an Influential JiepuDiican nerore aligning with the progressives. Mr. Colwell leaves a widow and two sons, Elmer B. Jr. and Russell T. Col well. He was a Mason, a Knight Tem plar, Shrlner and member of th East era Star. Funeraj arrangements have not been completed.
