Naturaliza tion day in the circuit court Wednes day resulted in the admission of 26 new citizens. Oiling of the Sandy, Base Line and Section Line roads from Montavilla half way to Troutdale, under the supervision of County Superintendent of Machinery W. A. Eatcliel, will be completed Sat urday. The oil is being secured from Montavilla. Within a few days oiling of these three roads from Troutdale half way to Montavilla will commence with oil secured at Troutdale. Main street and Foster road, county roads running through Lents, were oiled about a week ago. Xiast Lecture, on Birds. Saturday evening. May 23, at 8 o'clock, Dr. C. K. Hodge, of the University of regon, Eugene, will deliver the last of the popular bird study lectures for the year, at the Central library. His sub ject will be "Birds, Their Nesting Habits and Seasons." A large number of interesting pictures will be shown, including for the flrft time t'.ie pro fessor's own photographs of wild fowl and his manner of taming them. The public is invited. Injuries received yesterday afternoon by a steam shovel striking Rudolph Juan nickle, a laborer living along the Linnton road, caused Ziis death last night at the Good Samaritan hospital. ' The directors are F. C. Wasser- Sprinkler Stops Blaze. Fire broke out on the sixth floor of the Powers Furniture company building thi morning ut 3:45 o'clock, but te sprinkler system acted promptly and saved the building. The blaze started in the tower of the freight elevator, evidently from spontaneous combus tion. There is a large sprinkler head in the towi'r, which head soon put out the fire, but it was several minutes before the sprinkler could be shut off, thereby allowing water to run upon the goods.
