Thin fact became evi dent later In the day, when at an ad journed meeting of the commission, the Taconia Uredglng company agreed to maka the Improvement for 3169.800, which is $40,450 less than its original bid. The company was awarded the contract. The Tacoma company agreed to do the dredging for 12 cents and the riprap work for J1.65 per cubic yard, and to have the work completed within, 10 months. The contracts awarded the past two days In connection with the dock ag gcgate a rum of $307,615. Arrangements wt re made with the Hammond Lumber company and the Pacific Power & Light Co., yesterday for lei'trtc power to be used by tha big dredge. Twelve hundred horse lower will be needed for the dredge, which 1m is much as Is used by tha entire city of Astoria at present. Should the company secure the ton tiact from the Sanitary and Reclama tion commission. It will operate two dredges, wiiith would require double ihf amount of electric power. In order to supply this additional demand It will require the increasing of th- capacity of the electric plant of the Hammond Lumber company, as well as t'.iat of the Pacific Power & 1 .1 Kht Co.
