This 'campaign has the active cooperation of the board of education' and Superintendent Alder ,mn, and has as its object to teach every boy In the schools to swim. The plan will be. explained in the schools tomorrow rooming by speakers cent out bv the association. Every . t. 1 and 4 o'clock. Beginning MonT day, they will use the tank on week days at 4 o'clock. - Besides this Individual competition there will be a contest among the schools. A. loving cup will be pre sented to the school having more than 100 boys registered, which has the largest percentage of boys winning buttons. The T. M. C. A. has one of the finest swimming pools in the city. It is equipped . with a circulating filter, Which, keeps the water absolutely pure. Prohibitionists at Luncheon Tuesday afore Than 300 in Attendance at Func tion Meld at the ' Portland Hotel at Hoon; Chafln Hakes Address. More than 800 Prohibitionists at tended the luncheon at the Portland hotel yesterday with H- W. Stone, gen eral secretary of the Y. M. C. A., pre siding. Eugene Chafln, "dry" candi date for president, explained after the formal speeches that he really never expects to be president, "because I have been a candidate twice and I am opposed to a third term." The speakers were: H. B. Hastings, of Reed college, who told "How to Win;- A. C. Newell, of the Oregon Civic league, who discussed 'With What Shall We Replace the Saloon When the State Goes Dry;' Mrs. M. M. Sleeth, of the W. C, T. U., who ex plained how the liquor dealer ami manufacturer could live after they arc put out of business; S. W. Grathwell, of Pacific university, who showed how revenue could be provided to take the place of the money from liqnor li censes, and E.
