Local fish interests are very much excited over the ruling of the fish commission that catfish, trout and black bass from other ; states be no longer sold here. The extreme top quotation at this time is 17 hie a pound and it takes exceptionally good quality to bring that price at tne moment. in fact, some very good primes were sold, during the last 24 hours at 17c a nound. John Hackett of McMinnville is reported the seller or 141 Dales to uvesiey at 17c Lee Loy sold 271 bales of No. 1 hops to Klaber. Wolf & Netter at 17 c top ping the market, while a lot of- 44 bales was reported sold at Newberg around 17c. There Is a difference of opinion among the .trade regarding the con tract market. On a charge of abducting Myrtle Robertson, the 14-year-old daughter of J.' D. Rob ertson, a rancher living 'in the Hanna ford valley, a warrant was Issued yes terday by Judge Hoss for the arrest of Samuel Shove, proprietor of a local stationery store. According to the story told by the girl's mother, .the runaway and her father came Into Cen- Ltralia Tuesday to buy a pair of shoes ior tne girt. After waiting for her to return wnn ner purchase, a note was banded Robertson from Shove. In which Shove stated that he and the girl had gone to Portland to be mar- iriea. Mrs. Robertson immediately took steps to secure Shove's arrest. Sh , states that the man had been calling on ner daughter and that she had heard from outsiders that he intended marrying her, but that she had secured his promise to wait until the girl was of age before marrying. Shove is about SO years old. The officers are watching incoming trains and Shove will be arrested as soon as he ar rives here. Inquiry in Portland today shows that Samuel Shov and wife were registered at a local hotel yesterday. They set tled their bill late in the afternoon and left without making known their destination. 7 LANGUAGES IN SCHOOLS UP TO SUPERINTENDENT City School Superintendent Alder man was authorized yesterday by the school board to use his discretion about introducing foreign languages Into the city schools. Several schools already have classes ' in German and bther schools have been considered for Ger man and French. Domestic science classes were al lowed in the Alnsworth, Arleta. Albina, Creston, Lents, Vernon and Woodmere schools. Plumbing was ordered In stalled in the Buckman school to pre pare for dental clinics in the basement of the building. The sum of $300 was allowed for rental of school garden tracts for the Woodlawn school for two years. School of Trades; Ella Hose, sewing. School of Trades. " ' COLFAX MAN KILLED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT Colfax, Wash., Feb. 20. Mrs. Zell M. Beebe wired relatives at Colfax to day .that her husband, Zell M. Beebe, age 68 years, was killed at San Diego, Cal., Thursday, in an auto accident. No arrangements have been made for burial. 1 Mr. Beebe came to Colfax in .1877. He was a retired farmer and business man, and was well-known throughout Washington. He was grand trustee and secretary of the Odd Fellows Home at Walla Walla, and also a member of the A, O. U. W. Mr. Beebe has served as councilman and mayor of Colfax. His later residence has been Seattle. - . Mann; the attorney, from his home in this city is causing his family and friends much anxiety. No word of his whereabouts has come since last Mon day, when he was seen on --the street near the Chamber of Commerce build ing. Inquiry has been made- without avail at his accustomed haunts. It is the general opinion of his friends that Mr. Mann has met no untoward fate, but is visiting somewhere in the coun try, and they are very hopeful that he will make his presence known soon.
