There were quite fair receipts during- the last 24 hours imt tne ueniunu lias been Digger man offerings and everything has been cleaned up. Alaska lias continued the principal factor in the turkey trade to date for the Christmas trado. Practically all uf the buying has been for that account, iha amount of Kales for local consump tion being comparatively limited. The poultry trade is trying to get a line on the situation for the general Christmas trade. It is generally be lieved that the market will rule some what better than at Thanksgiving, but on the part of all Interests this Is a mere guess. After all returns are in it develops that the Portlund murket for turkeys during the Thanksgiving trade averaged us well, if not better than other markets along the coast. All showed a sharp loss in prices in the late trading. L'GG MARKET REPORTED WEAK There is a weaker tone In the egg trade along Front street and most of the business is again shown at 40c. JACK RABBITS SELLING WELL The receipt of very heavy supplies of jackrabbits from central Oregon yester day afternoon was a record for the local market, but the trade was In good con dition and most of the offerings were sold at $1.85 a dozen. HOP BUYERS GETTING LIBERAL While growers are seemingly willing to unload their hops at 20c for good stock, some of the dealers are paying us high as 21c and some late deals have been closed at that figure. Mason of Hood River Gets Average of $1.80 f. o. b. . . tor Specials. That the apple market abroad con tinues In excellent- shape is indicated by the returns now being received for supplies that were sent forward from Pacific northwest points. A. I. Mason, the well known Hood River grower, has Just received returns on a carload of special Newtowns which were sold in the Bremen, Germany, mar. ket by the Northwestern Fruit Ex change of this city. The average price for this grade and for offerings of 72s lo 226s, was $1.80 per box, net, t. o. b. Hood River. Considering the small sires and the quality of this fruit the sale is considered a record for the season. Regarding the general foreign trade in apples, the Northwestern Fruit Ex change's London branch writes under date of November 28, aa follows: X.ondon Market. The northern markets, however, are attract ing the bulk of the shipments on ac count of the higher values obtainable. We expect London to continue to show improvement and think this market will compare very favorably with oth ers on this stock later. Poor and rub bishy fruit seems about all cleaned up. The liability of this big fruit to develop rot spot and bitter pit makes it risky to hold for a protracted period whilst the retail trade Is not keen to buy, as the size Is too awkward to handle. These two factors nullify whatever advantage might have been gained on account of the shortage of the desirable counts. With regard to colored box fruit, the high prices asked reduce the demand to very narrow limits, and sales conse quently slow. Pears Barrels very light Indeed and Keiffers have advanced appreciably. Think prices will continue firm right along. Boxes: Winter Nlis continues to do well, although the fruit is for the main uart very small in size, supplies are limited, but matters are evened up bv the fact that they are not every body's rood at the Drices asked. There will In all probability be an advance of He a pound in the local market for cheese Monday morning. The strength of the trade la today the best of the season. The situation this year to data has been far above anvthina known in previous periods. There has not to date been any break in the price of cheese; in fact lor months the market has been stationary at present extreme values. Owing to the fact that the November make, which Is about to be marketed, was of very limited size, it is generally understood that Tillamook interests will force the additional half cent in the price at the beginning of the week. While supplies of cheese here have been very limited of late, there has been a very good demand shown botn rrom the-north and south and at no time re cently have holdings shown any inclin ation to drag. STOCKS ACT STRONGER With Exception of Southern Pacific All of the Specialties Are Higher Today. New York, Dec. 18. There was better feeling In the stock market for the day and with few exceptions the market closed at an advance. Consid erable weakness was shown In Southern Pacific but the loss for the day was only V4 point. This was practically the only specialty that showed a loss for the session. Even New Haven shares were firm and 1ft points higher at the closing today. Sugar was quite active with a net rise of a point but aside from these changes were fractional. Market for cattle has received SO much stuff recently that a rather quiet tone is shown and this will likely be continued for some days. The condition is a usual one during holiday time and the holding of the fat stock show at this time only aggravated the situation by bringing In even more stuff. At Chicago there was a steady tone in the cattle trade for the day. Kansas City cattle market was firm at former prices.
