Anderson went down under a leftj uppercut, followed by a volley of lefts and rights to the stomach and a ponderous right cross to the Jaw. In the photograph Cross is shown chivalrously helping to lift Bud up, while Manager Dick Don ald has rushed into the ring and Is reaching for his body to lift Bud to his feet. Note the puffed condition of Leach'B left eye. The secret Of the poor showing of Anderson came out tinder the sur geon's knife in a Los Angeles hospital yesterday. He was suffering from appendicitis, which formed, according to the surgeons, some five days before the fight and sapped his strength without his know ing it. It was thought upon first examination that Bud had an inflamed kidney due to Cross' kidney punches, but that was not the case. Anderson has led a clean life and the operation will hardly af fect him as it did Ad Wolgast, who. It is said, has not always led the simple life. BUD'S APPENDIX CUT E OUT AND CAUS POOR SHOWING Concretion Formed Five Days Before Fight; Months Be fore He Can Fight? (United Press Leased Wire.) Los Angeles, July 9. Lightweight Bud Anderson Is rallying today from the effects of an operation for appendicitis performed at a hospital at Santa Monica. According to his surgeons and nurses, his complete recovery Is assured, but it will be months before the husky little fighter can return to the ring If ever. Anderson was taken to the hospital late yesterday. Doctors had diagnosed his case as inflamed kidneys. A more careftrl examination revealed that he was suffering from appendicitis. Anderson's friends see in his illness the cause of his bad showing against Leach Cross at Vernon on July . it Is believed certain that he was a sick boy when he entered the ring, for his doctors, following the operation, offered the opinion that the concretion removed from his appendix had formed as early as five days before the fight. Owlntr to the facf that the operation was performed before the appendix broke, the doctors say there is a chance that Anderson's ring abilities will bo unimpaired. They say, however, that the probabilities are that the' boxer never will be possessed aaln of his full strength and ability to withstand pun ishment. Anderson probably will rest a month In southern California before returning to his home in Vancouver, Wash. - Lynch Takes Spokane Team. Vancouver, B. C, July 9. Mike Lynch took charge of the Spokane team of the Northwestern league today and will be seen In the centerfield position against the Vancouver Beavers this afternoon. Lynch refused to state what he Intends to 'do In regard to strengthening the team, but announced, that as soon as Powell was able he would replace Ctiul son In left field. 1 4 .j K Out They Go!
