WATER STOPS BORINGS
ON P0ST0FFICE SITE
City' Engineer Hurlburt was requested
by the postoffice department to inako
some soundings on the site of the new
postoffice In order that the architects
designing the buildjng could determine
on the foundations, a few days ago
lie attempted to make the bores, and
was forced to desist after going IS feet
because of the high water in the river.
Tills does not mean that an under
ground lake exists under the postof
fiee 'block. The water has reached a
point on the river bank where it seeps
along underground through a soft
strata of soil' or sand In such quantities
as to prevent the drill from cutting a
hole. The work consequently has been
stopped and probably will not be re
sumed for some time. Whether or not
this will have the effect of delaying
the start of constructing the new post
office la not known.-
