The most liberal estimate available today does not place wheat stocks in tie hands of Pacific northwest farmers at over 3,000,000 ' bushels. .This is stock that Is available for market. There is quite a fair supply 'of grain on hand that has not yet been sown. In the Walla Walla country only about 250,000 bushels are said to be re maining and in the country surrounding Pendleton stocks are almost too limit ed to consider. On the Oregon Trunk line, up the Deschutes, there are said to be bin four carloads of wheat left for market. At Goldendale, Wash., there is no wheat to be had.. In the Big Bend wneat stocks are almost cleaned ou and there Is scarcely enough wheat re naming at Idaho points to establish market. ...The "situation in the grain trade I therefore, the strongest of the present season to date, -uxport-demana contin nes to eclipse all previous markets and bids for club have been advanced to 87c a bushel while bluestenx is being quqted at 98 Vic. - Demand ts beat for the ciu owing to the huge business for this va riety offered by Europe. There is still four months for th present season's demand, therefore it is not unlikely that famine of wheat will be shown here before the new crop is available for grinding. . There is a firmer tone in the coarse grain markets with prices showing p-ac tlcally no change. COUNTY FUNDS IN BANKS WILL DRAW 2 PER CENT ' . tSsleai Bureau of Tha Journsl.) -f Salem, Or., April 21. Assistant At-, torney General" an. Winkle 'rendered "an opinion today to John Frawley, treasJ urer or Lnlon county, that county funds deposited with banks under the prj-. visions of the new law which will go into effect June 3 will draw 2 per cent interest: There was confusion over this owing to the fact that in the body of th0 law the rate of J per cent was named. while In the form of the bond . the amount was placed at 1 per cent. Mr. Van Winkle held that the rate in the body of the law would apply, as the other was merely a form indicating the manner ot drawing the bond. Money and Exchange. London. April 21.
