Tracks in the snow ahowed where a man had been working about the window. Patar Miller's cell Is nearest to this window. Baldwin, head Of the department for the public safety of young women, appeared before the- health and police committee of the city council today and succeeded in hav ing the committee recommend her dance hall ordinance for" passage. - Waldemar Seton and Gus O. Moser, representing Swedish, German and Swiss social or ganizations, sought to have the ordi nance amended to eliminate a provision prohibiting; the holding of Sunday dances. The committee, however, sided with Mra Baldwin on this score and if the council passes the measure no danc ing on Sundays will ba permitted here after. 4 J.-i....... AM- : -.:t The ordinance also prohibits the serv ing of liquor at publio dances or the holding of such dance in buildings connected with saloons. Many other provisions looking to the protection of young girls from' contaminating Influ ences are Incorporated in the ordinance, which has been reviewed at length at a number of publio hearings during' the past few months. . , - -' REMOVE CARD TABLES ON SHERIFF'S ORDER Since Sheriff Word Visited the Com mercial dub Tuesday night all card tables have been taken out of the club rooms and card playing has been dis continued, according to a statement made this morning by Mr. Word. This was in accordance with orders given to club officials after he had heard that card playing was allowed in the place and had paid a visit to the club. "I have also notified officials of several other prominent clubs that card playing would have to be stopped," said Mr. Word. "I issued these orders after I had heard that money had been lost in gambling games In certain of these places, by men who were not members, but had only been taken into the place by soma friend." , been Investigating for several weeks, and ft recommended to the council that steps be taken to secure the appropria tion.
