Reporters to Havs Booms. Three
rooms in the county courthouse will be
set aside for the use of court reporters
, as n result of a visit to the county com
missioners yesterday by Circuit Judge
Morrow. For some time Judge Morrow
has been agitating the question of
room for his reporter and the commis
sioners .have now decided to give all
reporters space with the understanding
that nothing but court business shall be
transacted by the reporters in them. A
; delegation representing residents along
' the West Portland road called on the
? commissioners and requested that the
roadway be put in better condition. The
matter was turned over to Road Super

, Injured Man Aided. All assistance
possible was given George A, Buchanan,
a-77-year-old resident t)f Gresham, yes
terday afternoon by James R. Strock,
a 19-year-old messenger for the City
Messenger company, when the letter's
motorcyclo collided with, the Gresham
resident at Fifth and Alder streets. The
messenger not only gave Immediate at
tention to the Injured man, but accom
panied him to the courthouse, where
Buchanan was going to pay bis taxes,
and then escorted him around town to
do some shopping, finally accompany
ing him to the railway station to see
that lie safely boarded his train for
home.. Strock was rounding Fifth
street at Alder, when he collided with
Buchanan, : who was knocked to the
pavement. Dr. J. D. Fervton attended
the Injured man, whose Injuries con-slsted-of
a cut on the nose a,nd Up. His
false teeth were also broken in the fall.
Building Wreok Starts Bolts. The.
Second suit against the Northwestdjrf
Fidelity company for damages because
of broken leases to rooms In the old
Marquam building was filed yesterday
by Wheelock & Williams, attorneys.
They nsk for $l0,!41 damages because
they were ejected from rooms on the
eighth bloor of the building. They
claim that their business depreciated
materially after they had been com
pelled to seek new, quarters. The first
suit was filed by M. H. Butler and S.
Stewart McDowell, who were com
pelled to vacate offices when It was de
cided to tear down the old building aft
er part had caved In. The latter asked
for $3495 damages.
Teacher nee Antolsts Miss Marie
Williams, teacher in the Washington
high school, has Ftarted suit for $2683
damages against V. J. and Ellas J. Mc
Nerny in the circuit court on account of
injuries alleged to have been received
when the automobile in which the two
were driving ran her down as she was
boarding a streetcar at East Eleventh
and Morrison streets cn January 13. She
complains that the automoolle was on
the wrong side of the street and wai
driven at about 35 miles an hour. She
says that she wus compelled to lose
time at the high school -and also at a
night school where she was teaching.
Court Has Problem. Whether or not
S. Swalkoshi was shooting to scare his
friend, J. Marurlck, early yesterday
morning on Eugene street, or shooting
at the man, s a question for the munici
pal court tomorrow. Both men had been
taking a walk in lower Alblna, going to
their home at Eugene street and Wil
liams avenue. Patrolrnun Waddell hear l
the shooting, and upon investigation,
found Masurick running. Swalkoshi ex
plained. that he shot' to see him run. The
runner declared the shots were aimed
at him. Both are under arrest.
Anto Thlrras Dsave Muff. A n auto.
mobile belonging to the y. N. Clark
company was stolen last night from In
front of the Empress theatre, and aban
doned at Fast Morrison and Grand ave
nue. In the auto when .found was a
woman's black hand muff. The car. was
left on the east side shortly after mid
night, and was found by a patrolman.
An officer kept watch all night, in
hopes that the owner of the muff would
return for It. ,

Sheriff Arrests Tour. John 'Jackson,
W. M. Booker, CC. Cradock and E. Z.
Vernon were arrested Tuesday after
noon by Deputy Sheriff! Phelan, Lums-
den and Ford on a charge of selling lot
tery tickets. The arrest. took place In
a tailor shop at Seventh and Gllsan
streets' after the deputies had seen a
man go into the place and purchase
tickets. They were released on $200
ball each.,

Police leek OlrL Coming to Portland
10 days ago from Ridgeville, Wash.,
Miss Dorothy Bergman, 16 years old,
has dropped out of sight and all ef
forts to locate, her have proven fruit
less. The girl oame to Portland With
another girl, of her age, both planning
to secure employment and work during
the summer. The companion secured
work, but the Bergman girl was not so
successful. She decided to visit friends
In South Portland while waiting for a
position,, at which place she was stay
ing. Last week she left home early one
morning, Intending td answer two ad
vertisements asking for female help.
That was the last seen of her by her
friends or members of the T, W. C, A.,
who were also offering the girls as
sistance in obtaining employment The
police and department of public safety
are now trying to locate her.
Housekeeper Sues Tratsralty. The
Delta Sigma Delta, a local college fra
ternity of which A. F. Weeks, J. H. Tut
tle. George Wardner and Frank L. Perj
are members, is the defendant In a suit
brought by Mrs. A. M. Lane, In the Jus
tice court, in the complaint filed by
Mrs. Lane she stated that -she furnished
the young men with her services as a
housekeeper and was to have been paid
$3 a week. She stated that from No
vember 1, 1911, to June.-. 1912.' she
worked for them but. did not receive
the amount agreed. She is suing to re
cover $46.60.
Wants Motorcycle Betnrnsd. After
having left his motorcycle in storage at
the Montavilla and Richmond garage,
East Thirty - seventh and Division
streets, for some time, G. I. Newell went
there Sufiday to get It out. The pro
prietors of the place refused to return
the machine, according to the complaint
which Newell has filed in the. Justice
court. He is suing to recover $25 dam
ages and, the cost of the machine, which
he Values at $200.
She Supported Kim She Says.
Charging that she has had to work as
Janitress to support her husband and
that he frequently made her stay in her
rooms all day, Jennie Leconta has sued
him for divorce. he complnlns that he
has never supported her since their mar
riage In 1910. She asks the return of
her . maiden name, Jennie Roberts.
Car Company Sued.-Vhristian Lolllck,
In a suit filed yesterday against the
Portland Railway. Light & Power com
pany in .the circuit court, asks $20,000
damages because the Jerk of a car threw
him from the interior of tho car where
he was standing, through the "exit'
door to the pavement, Jnflicting in
juries, alleged to have been serious.

Williams In a suit filed In the circuit
court because she fell through the floor
of a rooming house which she had leased
from Mrs. Williams. She contends that
Mrs. Williams was negligent 4n not

The child was taken sick while play
ing on the street and was brought home
by his companions. Frightful convul
sions followed and it was with great
difficulty that the physicians saved his
life.
