Weather conditions are expected to be an aid toward cleaning up some of the surplus In the local apple , trade. Re ceivers have been wishing for a cool spell that would Stop shipments for a time and thus allow ths market to be placed upon a normal basis. Since the Kt'aton started there has been no time when apples were not in too heavy sup ply for the de-maud; and prices have accordingly suffered. ' , Regarding the foreign apple situation, W. Dennis & Hons, fruit brokers, write from Covent Garden market, London, under date of December 13 as follows: Arrival In London this week have been very light anu barrel apples have again gone outsell at higher prices. A Nova -Sootian boat, ; tha Rappahannock, with 87,000 .barrels,, has Just arrived, but we only managed to get a few hun dred barrels out of her io time for sale today;.:. As. will be seen from quotations below, prices were comparatively satis factory end we are expecting to have a very good sale on Monday next, when the bulk-will be - offered. ! Quantities next week will be large it Is true, but we are looking io the Christmas demand for a rapid clearance at current prices. The demand for Kelff ers has gone off completely and there has been a further drop Irr price) this week, both for boxes and barrels. The former was quoted on the track basis of 8O0 a bushel, while the bluestem round eager bids at s&c While there was only a few small sales reported, buyers, especially mill' ers. were very eager to take hold. Indi cations were seemingly for a farther advance In the price unless there is a change In the foreign situation. There was no change in the price ot patent or export nour during tne cay, but both of these lines were quoted firm at previous figures. MUllng Interests art apart in their ideas regarding the price of patent, and it may be that no further changee will be shown for some time unless there Is a radical movement of wheat prices. In the coarse grain trade there was a very quiet tone during the day. No changes in price are shown for either oats or barley. . The former la firm and the latter extremely weak.
