Pittsburg. Pa., Jan. 8. Georre D.
Dunbar, a well known mechanical engi
neer ahd industrial etpcrt of Pittsburg,
how located at Cape Graolas a' Dlos,
Nicaragua, writes to friends here that
the newly discovered gold fields In Ni
caragua promise to rival those of
Alaska in importance. One PIttsburger,
h says, is taking out. $10,000 worth of
refined itold each month on a compara
tively small holding, and that others
are doing equally well. Mr. Dunbar says
foreigners are flocking there but that
the marked successes are being made
by Americans, whose superior business
and lhdustrlal training gives them an
immense advantage.
Oh Thanksgiving day, Mr. Dunbar
says, the heat was so Intense that plan
tation and mine employes worked with
the least possible clothing that would
pass muster, but that there was none
of the lagging that IS so evident In oth
er "lections of tropical America, because
everybody is mltteil with the gold fe-
vef and fortunes are being made every
hour. There is abundant opportunity
for capital, he says, but th natives
and the NIcaraguan government are
chwry about letting th outsider know
anything boyond What he discovers for
himself.
Mr. Duhbar spent soma time In Alaska
several years ago, In the capacity of an
engineer,, and he expresses the opinion
that tho, NIcaraguan field will ulti
mately give the world as large a yield
of gold as either th great North Amer
