Elder, Captain Paul son, is scheduled to sail tonight for San Francisco, Eos Angeles and San Diego. The steamer Coaster arrived last night from . San Francisco and dis charged asphalt at the Columbia Con tract dock and cement at the Oak street dock. She will go down to Linnton to night to load .lumber for California Carrying 600,000 feet of lumber, the steamer Avalon, Captain Christensen, hag cleared for tha same port with' 500,- 000 feet. -. H. C. Burke, for the past few years printer of the weather bureau publica tions here, has secured a six months' furlough and will leave tomorrow lor San Francisco. T, A.- Hurtle, one of the most successful trappers of this section, was hero this week mar- keltng his pelt and collecting hi boun ty on the scalps of wildcats and co yotes, tji proceeds of which amounted to about $1000. . This Is thelargest amount of scalps and furs brought In so far this season.- He received 1219 bounty on th scalps and the furs will bring hlm'about 1800, He has bagged 221 coyotes and 40 wild cats so far this season, but only brought In the pelts of 122 coyotes and l"ats on this trip. Among the other pens brought In by Mr. Hurtle for shipment to eastern fur dealers were thosa of otter, muskrats, mink and badgers. ; , Mr. i Hurtle: is 73 years old and has followed trapping and hunting A great deal of his Ufa and Is an expert trap per.
