Tenn., Kansas City, San Francisco, Walla Walla' and a dpsen other places, expressing " confidence In the Portland Institution and deploring the Infamous attack of the Daily News. V "The details of this affair have been telegraphed all oyer the country, as evi denced by the clippings that I am re ceiving dally from cities as far east as Nashville, New Orleans and i Kansas City," said Mr." Stone. ( The following resolution was adopted yesterday at a meeting of representa tive Methodists of Portland gathered at lanch under the auspices vf the Men's Methodist Social union: attach has been made by . the Daily News of this city upon the local T. M. C, A. and upon Its leadership; and "Whereas, The Y. M. C. A., as every body knows, stands for the best and highest Voral and spirituals life irt a community; Its leaders always willing to cooperats with every organisation standing for human betterment; and "Whereas, For 5 years this Institu tion lias been -working ; incessantly In our midst for a finer cltisenshlp and a nobler manhood! and . , : "Whereas, Secretary H. W. "We are glad to take this opportunity to express our sympathy with the of ficers and leaders of the Y. M. C A. under this hostile criticism and express to them, to Secretary Stone and his as sociates our utmost confidence in them and in the institution which has dem onstrated Itself to be one of the finest of Portland. Cadrons says ha is already married, that ha met her in Portland, and she seemed to cast a spell over him which compelled him to go back to see her again, He finally fled to escape her Influence.
