Attendance last night broke all records. Ushers had to be employed to keep the dense' throng moving eft that all could see. A crowd was waiting outside when' the doors opened this morning. With the attend ance of the railroad employes this after noon and of several Improvement clubs the number today promises to exceed that of yesterday. Just across the street from the lana show two hundred of the men who have made Oregon a world leader In the pro duction of fruit are gathered, attending the twenty-seventh annual meeting of the State Horticultural society. Of the society A. P. Batehara Is president, E. H. Shepard, vice president, F. W. Power, secretary. Opening the meeting this morning President Bateham said that never has the fruit producing business had a brighter outlook In Oregon. Orchardlsts are constantly adopting better methods until their work has assumed the dig nity of a profession. Student Orators to Contest. The first paper read this morning was by Professor V. R. Gardner of Ore gon Agricultural college, with a discus sion led by Fred Groner of Hillsbord. Professor C I. Lewis, hortlculturlsPof the Agricultural college, delivered an address on the growing of the logan berry, with discussion led by Brltt As plnwall of Brooks, and Samuel H. Brown of the same place. Both addresses were of great practical value. The meeting of the horticultural so ciety will be continued this afternoon and tomorrow. An oratorical contest for students of O. A. C. and the elec tion of officers will be the feature of the Thursday afternoon session. The annual banquet of the society will be at the Multnomah hotel tomorrow night and the program will be continued In the meeting hall at East First and Mor rison streets Friday.
