A formal protest filed Monday by
Democratic County Chairman Cotton,
alleging that all the envelopes contain

District Attorney Hanna; who will hand
down his decision in the matter soon.
The Democrats charge that-on Novem
ber 7, four days before the official count

opened according to law, the packages

charges," which are signed by the full
committee appointed by the Democrats
to watch the returns, Chairman Cotton
intimated that two courses were open
either to apply to the superior court for
a writ of mandamus, compelling the
. supervisors to eliminate from the can
vass those returns which have been tam
pered with, or to apply to the next ses
sion of congress and have that body
pass upon the questions involved.
Cotton Intimated that no further steps
would be taken pending the action of
