Fallng to find any trestle work secure against set tling and loosening at the Joints, the Southern Paclfig Company has made a gravel fill entirely across Lake Lablsh, a distance of almost a mile, thousands of tons of gravel being used for the purpose. This bit of road has cost the company a small fortune, having been watched constantly since the wreck 20 years ago, when a trestle gave way be neath a patsenger train - and several lives were lost and scores of damage suits brought against the company.
