Changes in Novcm' cr.
Walla Walla. Wash., Nov. 1. Cher
ries In November from outdoor trees.
And good cherries, too. They were
brought to the city yesterday by W. W.
Smith, whose farm Is five miles south
at the city, and were sampled and
found lacking in nothing save perhaps
firmness of the meat.
The cherries have been on the trees
continuously since last June, says Mr.
Smith. At that time the first and main
crop was picked, but there were many
blossoms on the trees then. The blos
soming has continued throughout the
summer, and until last night's freeze
killed them, they were still there.
With the constant blooming-has been
the ripening of the fruit, and there has
not been a day Bnce last June. Mr.
Smith says, when ripe cherries could
.not be picked from this tree.

Only one load of livestock, arrived to
day that was available for market .Only
one other load came forward and that
was a direct shipment to a local killer.
The change in the basis for hogs at
points east of the Rockies today will
have the effect of stopping any further
declines in values here If the plans of
leading interests carry. '
While further heavy runs of hogs in
the local yards would nave a further de
pressing effect that might possibly
force another decline, still the ideas of
the trade here are that values in. the
east should be followed on their upward
and downward flights,
The Chicago market was a nickel
higher for hogs this morning, tons mov

the day was 11,000 head compared with
19.000 a year ago.
Kansas City hog market was firmer

There Is little likelihood of a big run
of cattle In the local yards within the
immediate future, as the stock is not in
the country to ship.
At Chicago there was a weak tone In
the cattle trade for the day. Run was
2500 head.
Kansas City cattle market was weak

Inactivity was shown in the entire
grain market today. Bids for club were
nominally placed at 78c and bluestem
61082o bushel tidewater track basis.
These bids were considered the extreme
by the trade for the day and buyers
were not Keen to take noia.
Nothing new has developed in the
eastern trada and no further business
cuji be confirmed here.
Chicago was weaker this morning, but
thore was a fairly steady tone at Liv
erpool at the opening, with values frac
tionally lower to higher. Closing was
weaker with a loss of d to d.
With the cargo market dull and In
active and exporters unable to purchase
suuplles for less'1 money, the situation
hflh assumed a waltlnir attitude with
"helther buyer nor Seller anxious.
I i lie coarse grain market is entirely
neglected and no business of Importance
Is reported by the local trade. Price
of both oats and barley la nominally
held at yesterday's average.
Mlllstuffs are very firm but holders
are not making any change in quota
tions. Flour situation Is quiet but steady
all around.
Damage reports regarding the Aus
tralian crop are coming forward, but
these are taken with a grain of salt
by the trade, because on previous occa
sions they have been very unreliable,
it develops that no real damage was
done In Argentina by the hall storm.
