Army enlist ments during the last few months have taken a sudden and surprising Increase, according to war department figures, Just given out. Despite' the fact that tne summer months are always dull re cruiting periods, 2075 men enlisted In the regular service of the army during July. One reason which might be as slgned To Targe increase in recruiting Is the new enlistment law which goes Into effect on November 1. This law pro vides that every man enlisting after that date must complete four years of actual servtee and then must hold hlm solf In readiness as a reserve for three moro years; He may be summoned at sny time to serve In the event of war or the imminence of war. Doubtless, msny men who have been considering serving in the army, but -who, at the same time, do not wish to be held un der obligation for so long a period, have taken advantage of the opportuni ty to enter before the law goes into effect, thus avoiding the three years' reserve duty.
