About two years ago the lodge members decided that club rooms would be desirable and an entire floor of the Rcnn building -on Court street at Cottonwood waa leased and fitted up. The ground floor includes the olub rooms, billiard, card, reading rooms, buffet, baths and bowling alleys. The second floor la occupied, by a splendid audi torium and three reception rooms. The lodge room, the finest in eastern Ore gon, banquet hall and reception rooms are on the third floor. The membership of the lodge Includes about, 200 Elks who reside outsld of Baker. ' Many of them make their homes in nearby towns in the Powder valley and other parts of Baker county. William J. Lachner, postmaster at Baker, is exalted ruler of the lodge, and Charles P. Murphy, an attorney, is its delegate to the grand lodge convention. EUGENE LODGE, NO. 357, BOASTS 500 MEMBERS One of the largest Elks' lodges in Oregon Is located at Eugene, the home of the state university and the center of a rich agricultural country. No. 857 was- instituted in 1897, and today t boasts a membership of more than 500 men who represent all walks of life In the city. It owns its own home, a two story building, which was completed this year at a cost of 845,000. The lodge rents the first floor and occupies the entire second story. The dimensions of the building are 80 by 160 feet. The club rooms and lodge hall are splendidly furnished. $60,000 HOME OCCUPIED BY ALBANY, OR., NO. 359 In February, 1909, Just It years after Ixdge No. 359 had been Instituted at Albany, the Elks' temple, a handsome two story brick structure, was dedicated. The building is valued at 860,000. The lodge was founded February 3, 1897. and 39 names are enrolled on the char ter list. J. W. Wyatt was the first ex alted ruler. The membership of the lodge includes almost every man of prominence in the city. A. W. Bowersox is exalted ruler of 359. Exalted Rulers COL..C C. The lodge has a comfortable home and well equipped club room facilities From the first the lodge grew steadily until today it is looked upon as one of the strongest links in the Elks' chain of lodges within the boundaries of the Pa cific northwest. At present the lodge has 623 mem bers, all In good standing on its roll. ' KARCKTEEUlD 1 1 CO 1 ready, acquired an option on a valuable plot of ground for the purpose of build ing its own home. The lodge has 182 members, prac tically all of whom reside in Klamath Falls. Klamath Elks are wide awake. Dar ing the first week in June the "Rodeo," a wild west show, similar to the Pen dleton, Or., "Roundup," waa held under the auspices of the lodge and was pro nounced a success. Klamath Falls Is situated in Klamath county, a territory rich in natural re sources that are Just being developed. Six New Lodges on Pacific Coast. Since the last grand lodge reunion at Atlantic City, six subordinate lodges have been instituted on the Pacific coast one in Oregon, one in Idaho, and four in California. of o. A..W. During its three years of existence there has not been a death recorded among Us members. This is due, they declare, to their salubrious climate. A lot was recently purchased at the corner of Commercial avenue and Third street, in the most desirable part of the city. It la Intended to erect a temple on this site as soon as money can be raised for this purpose. At present they are leasing quarters in the Masonic temple. The exalted ruler of 1160 is W. R. Haines, and C. F. McKnlght is the grand lodge delegate. SET in the midst of a beautiful moun- , tain country of fruits and flowers, Ashland, Or., is the home of lodg No. 944,' one of the most progressive units of the B. P. O. E. The lodge was instituted March 18, , 1905, with a charter membership of !1. At present - the lodge has a splendid three story home the largest building In the city and 559 active members. The value of the building, real estate and furnishings, is 80,000. The tem ple was dedicated October 15, 1910. : The structure includes a banquet ball, capable of seating 400 persons, olub rooms, beautifully furnished, and a lodge room with a' seating capacity of more than 600 people. - In addition there ' are dining and grill rooms for both men and women, and plana are being made for a roof garden. SALEM, OR., LODGE HOME IS POPULAR RENDEZVOUS Salem, the capital of the state, la the home of Lodge No. 838, one of the best known units of the order within the state. Its building, a 835,000 structural is the headquarters of Oregon Elkdom during the sessions of the legislature. Whenever the party whips start out to round up legislators the first place they head for Is the "Elks' club," which is a pretty good indication that Salem Elks can give visiting brethren a pleas ant time. The Salem lodge now has a member ship of 671. It waa organised April 21, 1896. I Salem, which is located In the beauti ful Willamette valley, la only a two hours' ride from' Portland. VANCOUVER, WN., OWNS HANDSOME CLUB HOUSE Although Lodge No. 828 has been in existence only 10 years. It owns Its own temple, which, combined with furnish ings and other property, is valued at something over 888,000. The member ship of the lodge is 430 A. M. Blaker Is exalted ruler. CORNER STONE LAID AT ELEVENTH HOUR A modern home that wllTcost when completed 365,000 la being built by lodge No. 214 at Great Falls, Mont ' No. 214 Is the second lodge organised - in Montana. Its new home will be ready for occupancy in October. To thia lodge belongs the distinction of selecting the Elks' mystic hour of 11 p. m. as the time for laying the corner stone of the temple.
