Tha orogreaa whloh has been made In broad cooperation during tha past 24 month la reflected In Ihla summary. The Exchange entered tho field at a time when the crops were suddenly In creasing from limited Into heavy pro duction, and tha necaaaltlc for unity of Inleraata were vital. What It Aaa accomplish.! ao far In the way of Inrreaead membership and general representation, baa been due to th reaulla obtained for th growera In dollar and rente, but th latter ar sec ondary to tha benefit that ara being derived from the wide distribution that haa been effected, the establlahment of the different brands on the market, the placing of tha product In the logical markets where they belong, aa well aa the uniformity of nrartlcea In rrMim packing and bualneae like method em ployed in the packing bouse. Tha call for wlda clletrlhnltm haa oeen met a urine tne reel two ar sons by th exchange on llnea that were th hope of th growers for years, but were aeemlnglv deatlned to delay, and to the responsibility of Individual ef forts of each dlrtrtrt working Inde pendently of Its neighbor, and In Ignor ance of Its methods and result. To have continued on this basin would have discounted the prestige of the Industry, and its ability to successfully rope with the many obstacles and condi tions that had to be encountered and properly dealt with.. With nearly avery uisincc now woraing fogeiner upon common line for th one end. It is a proper statement to make that the mar keting problem ia being solved In a manner that presages health fulneas to the sltustion and adequate return to me grower. (Growers' BeTUng Machine. In th Northwestern Fruit Exchsnge the growers of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, have their own sell ing machine: Its affairs are controlled by them, it Is represented in practically the entire marketing territory of th United State and Canada in nam as WJ.T 1 mm Im ft wkll. - . its selling facilities upon the same gen eral lines hss been established through out Europe. The exchange ha been working for months in preparation for marketing the 1913 crops: durlnar that Derlod It haa not been Inactlv With Ita mmmhmrm hut educational features of every klnj cal culated to Insure uniformity, in every respect necessary to the common good, have been the oonstant sublect of ef fort and correspondence. The organix- tlon confidently expects tn rttinl Irate during the present season a distribution equai or in excess or tnat accomplished during the combined seasons of 1910 and 1911, when it entered a total of 19 different markets of th world. It be lieves that through the system of ad vertising matter which it will rilatrl. bute this year more will be done to ex ploit the fruits of the northwest as a whole, than through any method ever undertaken in the past. The exchange haa met the desires of the growers for a cooperative Institution operated in their sole benefit and behalf, nnt nniv for Its members but for the growers at large, and it welcomes a watchful eye, from everv source, unon Its onrtlnn and results. It standa first and last for cooperation, and invites the cordial Interchange of Ideas snd correannnrienr. with every source of production and dis tribution, for the general welfare of the northwest.
