It is found in every clime in the frigid north and in the sunny south. It was the honored flower among the ancients. It grew In the hanging gardens of Babylon. Solomon saner its praises. The Greeks called it Queen of Flowers." The Romans made their couches Into literal beds of Roses. The rose speaks a universal language. A peasant in Italy at a wayside pate may band an American traveler a rose and its meaning is clear, though neither understands the oth er's words.. Tomorrow Portland will strew her steeta with roses, with the same sentiment to all the world. We ask the people of all nations to take a few moments' respite from business and join with us in our ROSE CARNIVAL FESTIVITIES, a magnificent tribute to the flower of untold value. William Penn exacted from his daughter a aingle rose in payment for the first brick house erected in America. The Rose grew on his own bush but to him was the most valuable thing in the world. Baron Steigel deeded to the people of a German com munity at Manheim, Pennsylvania, a church on-condition that they pay to his heirs each year a single rose. This has been done annually to this day, In what is called "The Festival of Roses." Tomorrow Rex 6regonus will arrive in Portland. The people of this great and prosperous common wealth will pay him their tribute of love and honor by showering him with roses. All vis itors to the city are cordially invited to make headquarters at this store. blow aaa raaae ru&f ticewe to lte Horry mmm r a. I t f. M WU4 WmI I r. H aauelte tM a 6 M' I r U !
