Separate lots are made of the white, the light blue, the dark blue, the yellow, the brown and the black pieces, and each of these lots is washed separately. Then all pieces of fine fabrics and fancy pieces are picked out and these are either washed in nets or by hand. Some of the colored pieces are of such inferior quality that their colors .would fade almost immediately upon reaching th water a,ntd the se are often washed by hand. Only the greatest care and constant watching pre vents th possibility of a piece of this character from being washed with a lot of good pieces and possibly ruining them. The modern laundry not only thoroughly cleanses and washes the linen, but does so with the least danger to the life of the various pieces. No method Is capable of such thorough cleansing of the linen as the scientific and sanitary method of th modern laundry, and no- where else Is such care taken to Insure the longest Ufa of every piece. Water, soap and borax are the three mediums for Cho rough cleansing of the linen. Portland's Bull Run water is Ideal for laundry purposes soft and pure. The soap must be made of pure tallow. The Troy Laundry uses over 25 tons of this pure soap a year. Borax harmless to clothes does away with the ex cessive use of bleaches and other Ingredients, so often injurious to clothes. To prevent the trouble from lint, all household linens re Washed In separate lots. Tablecloths, sheets, pit low slips and hand towels are washed in separate ma chines. This is but one. small Item of the care used by the modern laundry to attain perfect results. It requires ten changes of water and from 1" to I hours' time' to thoroughly cleanse a lot of white goods. All silk and woolen articles are always washed by hand With a pure potash soap, i - After the goods have been thoroughly wanned they are placed in an extractor, a large brass perforated bowl, which revolves at about 1200 revolutions a . min ute. The centrifugal force presses the clothe to th outer rim Of the bowl and squeezes the water out with out the slll'itest injury to the clothes. The linen is." then placedf In baskets for distribution through the va rious departments of the laundry. The scientific method of the modern, laundry the Troy Laundry makes it possible not only to cleans your clothes, but to 'deliver them to you purified, clean and sweet The cleanliness of your laundry vitally . . concerns you and when you send your linen to th .
