Bandon. Or, Feb. t. Thomaa J. Per
kins, one of Oregon'a oldest settlers,
died at his home In this city on Febru
ary t, and was burled in Bandon ceme
tery Sunday. Mr, Perkins waa born in
Hardin county, Tenn., June 22, 1831.

check artist did business here Tuesday,
passing a worthless check for $28.28 on
H. C. Madsen, a local Jeweler, buying
a oh eap watch as a pretext for getting
the paper cashed. The check purported
to be drawn by T. H. Brown on the
First National bank of tills eity, made
to and Indorsed by F. H. Ford. The
forgery was discovered yesterday when
the cheek was presented for payment,
but the criminal had had time to get
away.
The man who cashed the check went
into the jewelry store early in the day,
-called Mr. Madsen by name and said he
