members of the Nasarene Army of
America will hold a benefit entertain
ment In their hall at 142 Russell street
Sunday evening for the purpose of rais
ing money to defray the exepnses of
the Christmas celebration which is to
be held In the hall Monday evening. On

will .be an exhibition of the Passion
play in motion pictures. All donations,

Donations Wanted- -The management
of the Boys' and Girls' Aid society of
Oregon reports that there is no candy
or nuts or other luxuries to give the
children for Christmas day. Donations
Of these things have been very slim this
year and the management hopes that its
many friends will assist it at this
time. It was hoped that a. chicken or
turkey dinner would be provided for th
children, but It seems Impossible to do
that this year unless some one lends
assistance. All donations will be thank

meeting of the Westmoreland Improve
ment association yesterday evening, E.
L, Mills presented his resignation as
president and F. A. Ackerman was
elected to fill the vacancy. Great satis
faction was expressed by members of
the association because of the Improve
ment of Milwaukle street and It was
urged that the completion of the sewer
and paving system for Westmoreland
be forwarded as much as possible. The
opening of East Seventeenth street la
also demanded.
"Mysterious Billy" Smith Better Dr.
Fred J. Ziegler, who Is attending "Mys
terious Billy" Smith, who is at the St.
Vincent's hospital suffering from bullet
wounds inflicted on him by A. B.
Loomls Sunday night, believes that the
ex-pugillst will recover. Smith rested
easy last night acoordlng to the hospi
tal authorities.

taire." Thursday evening, December
