Holdup Tale Disbelieved A report of a holdup that 1 not given credit by the police was made this morning by George Masson of 141 Shaver street, who de clared that two men had accosted him at the corner of Larabee and Mont gomery streets at 6 o'clock and relieved him of 15 in gold and a woman's gold , watch, engraved with the initial "K. R, L," Masson say one of the high waymen had very light' hair and a , prominent gold tooth in the front of his mouth. Motorcycle Patrolman Cliff Maddux was sent to the corner where the holdup was said to have taken place and report that the corner is very dark, especially at that hour in the morning, which would make It almost Impossible for the man to see whether or not the holdup had a gold tooth or light hair. The boy also reported that he had been up- all night with his uncle, "Just casing around," but this 1 believed to be false. Loses Damage Suit A Verdict for the defendant in the case of Nicholas An gelica against the Portland Railway, Light St Power company, was returned by a jury yesterday evening in the cir cuit court Angelica alleged he received injuries to the extent of 126,000 while boarding a streetcar last July at Second and Olbbs streets. The company claimed he attempted to get on the car while it was in motion. The Jury was out two hour, and nine men signed the verdict in favor of the defendant company. At torney Glltner ft Sewell appeared for Angelica, while Attorney Arthur Dib ble represented the company. Hons Bobbed Mrs. A. O. Richard son of 395 Halsey street reported to the police yesterday that her home had been ransacked while she was calling on a neighbor, and that 17 and a few valuables had been taken. While call ing on the neighbor, a deaf mute called and begged for money, and the woman announced to the police that she sus pected him of the robbery. Shortly aft er the robbery, Patrolman- Hellyer ar rested Charles Steel for begging, and he is being examined and questioned to determine whether or not ha is the man. Royce of the Royce Auto company, while driving his car at Second and Pine streets last night, ran down Elmer, E. Earl, bruising and scratching the man considerably. Royce took Earl in his auto, drove to police headquarters where he reported the accident and then drove Earl to the office of Dr. Ziegler, where his in juries were dressed. After this was done, Royce drove the patient to his home. No bones were broken and the Injuries were not serious. Clark was elected today to serve a president of the Portland Ad club during the coming year. Mr. Clark's election was a foregone con clusion because, when the present pres ident, David N. Mosessohn, refused to accept the nomination ' for a second term. It left Mr. Clark as the unani mous choice of the club. During the past year Mr. Clark served a second vice president and chairman of the membership committee. The election commenced at 11 o'clock today in the Ad club quarter at the Hotel Portland. Competition for the of fices of secretary-treasurer, first and second vice president, and the three places to be filled on the executive board was very keen. President Mosessohn announoed that the annual banquet will be held Thurs day, January 11, and that It will be made one of the most distinctive event In Portland club history.
