The season for , salmon fishing will open on the coast streams of Oregon December 10, which will mean that ao Hlv operations will start the coming Monday morning. . - Preparations for fishing are being mads along the Umpqua and the local rresh rish trade expects to secure the bulk of Its supplies from there. "Salmon ts unusually scarce at this time," says C. J. B. Malarkev, a local wholesaler, ' "and any kind fa readily moving at lOo a pound today." Dealers report that they refused to accept orders for many hundreds of sounds of salmon today owing to the limited offerings. BUTTER MARKET WEAKER While several creameries report that they are able to clean up their entire make of fresh butter at the present price, the market is weaker generally anc additional price shading is reported in otner quarters. Purchases for this account lira being made from 95c to $1 per cental with the higher figure being generally paid for good quality at country shipping points. Locally the potato market Is steady to firm with practically n-change In prices. Little real good potatoes are coming forward, most of the offerings being rather rough. The Sacramento, Cal., Evening Bee aays: "A big portion of the potato crop of the Sacramento river delta re gion la stored In the local Southern Pa cific company's fruit sheds for the win ter season. The sheds filled with pota toes extend from I street to K and from midway between K and L streets to M, a total distance of three and a half blocks." BOND ISSUTSlK IS CAUSE OF DECLINE New York. Not only Is the wheat market quiet, but there is a slow tone in the oats trade. Nominally the bids for No. 1 white remain at $31 track for tidewa ter delivery, but no actual business is passing at these figures. Abroad there was generally a weaker tone for wheat, although ParlB and Bu dapest were fractionally higher. Ant werp was unchanged, while Berlin and Liverpool were lower. Flour market is quiet. A mall ad vice from Palouse, Wash;, says a ship ment of six carloads of flour, compris ing 2000 barrels, for the China mar ket, consigned to Hankerson & Co., flour exporters of Seattle, was made by the Palouse flour mill Saturday. Chicago, Dec. 7,-There was an erratic tone in the wheat market to da(y but the opening and closing, as a rule, was lower. Closing was c to c off with the principal pressure in the May. December started c off at 98 c and had an early advance to 94c on short covering. Tops sold there this morning at $6.85; light stuff overtopping heavy swine by 10c. Run for the day was 26,- 000 head compared with 32,000 a year ago. . High mark this morning for fresh of ferings was 45c a dosen and dealers re ported that sales' were hard to close even at the reduction. Receipts of ranch eggs show an enor mous Increase for the past' few days. Arrivals during the past 24 hours were unusually heavy and nearly all interests were represented on this morning's express. A car of eastern storage eggs came forward late yesterday and Is said to be offering to the trade at a sharp re duction In values. The general market for Aprils continues at 23c a dozen, hut some shading is reported. The price mentioned Is for select quality, ordinary stuff usually selling for less. - The price of eggs is shewing a further reduction in the south. At San Fran cisco extras were down 2c a dozen at 43c GLENDALE MERCHANT FOUND SHOT IN WOODS rSoectal to Th Journal. Glendale, Or., Dec. 7. The body of Joseph L. Winehell, a partner In Snyder & Co.'s department store, and one of Olendale'sv most prominent citizens, was found in the woods' back of the city this morning with a gunshot wound In the head.
