furnish traffic for our line. When this
timber has been removed ths denuded
lands can be used for agricultural pur

President Gray said that extension of
the line from Banks to Tillamook de
pends entirely upon what attitude the
railroads take towards extension and
construction work. He says that as yet
he has received no information on that
score and the resumption of work be
yond Banks therefore is still an open
question.
"We visited Tillamook, Bay City and
Garibaldi," continued Mr. Gray, "and
the people of the Tillamook country
certainly have tbelr arms open for a
railroad. They need one and they will
have one, but how soon the work will
be taken upon our line depends a great
deal on the attitude of the pubtle to
ward the rallroada . Under existing con

he expects to have the line in operation
to Bend by November 1. and that the
Crooked river bridge will be ready for
