The four-cycle manufacturer uses six cylinders in order to escape the jerky motion which is most pjonounced in the single cylinder ; a little less pro nounced in the two-cylinder; a little less pronounced in the four-cylinder; and modified as much as it ever can be in the four-cycle, when six cylin ders are used.
