Several weeks ago It waa announced that Mc Credle waa intending to send for Hen doreoa when hla pitching staff already on the around did not coma up to expeo stations. However, under the rigid rules of the Coast league and th Portland team, Ben may straighten up and pitch the same ball of the oia days. . j Weather Worked Wonders. Warm weather of recent date has ; placed ths0 Beavers In great condition, and the few nays remaining until next I Tuesday will fee spent in drilling team work into the regulars. Manager Mc tcredte has spent an boor or so every 'morning and afternoon on signals and '., team play, and the champions are get 'tlng into something like the grand form .that characterized their play laat fall. They cover much more ground in field ' lng, and play the hit and run and sacri fice with greater precision' in batting. Rodgers Showing More. . .'.McCredle statc4oday that he thought Che would use Rndgers On second base Instead of Mensor, the .former, being header and possessing mors spirit than the latter. Whether or not Kodgera can hold upjwben the pace gets hot remain to be seen. However, McCredle is great ly worried over this most Important sta tlon, and Is hoping that Neal Bell will take it Into JjIs head to report If he doesn't report, it is very likely that he .will go on the suspended list, aa the big 'manager haa about exhausted his pa tience. With. Ball and Peckanpeugh working in harmony around the second sack, Portland ought to take a comr--mending position right from the Jump, ' Koestner in Good Shape. Elmer Koestner, the tall er-Cleve- jiuianr, im rvuiiuius wiu ausm .nape, ana .should prove a valuable man for the champions.- He learned lot from his peer's experience with the Naps that he did not know when he was a mem ber of the Angel band. In fact he acts like a different sort of a twlrjer and he was no slouch when he was hurling for the Dlllonltea. ' Knbn books Better. Walter Ktibn looks better every day. 'Why, "Spec" showed more today than be did durlnr - the whole training trip down here last year said Jim. "When I picked him ud on the coast in 1909 he looked like a worldbeater. Last spring, and, for that matter, during the entire season, his arm seemed to bo bound up. It did me a lot of good to see the action In that arm this afternoon. There was the free, easy motion which he had while pltoh lng on the coast' " " 'Lefty Gregg turned on the steam for a few minutes this afternoon. If 'Jim' had been present at the time ha would probably have put a damper en Gregg. It all happened because of tha fact that the players could not wait until the usual time to start for the field In the afternoon. The schedule calls for the players to leave the hotel at f :S0 o'clock. Most of them were on the field at that time, with 'Gregg among them. The big boy got Into the box and burned - them over. Judging from the antics of some of the bats men, Xefty" had something to show. When McGulre arrived Gregg was soon sent to anomer part ot the field. This was the first time that Gregg has at tempted to use any speed. He did not cut loose, but what hs did send up seemed to be pussllng." ,,., PORTLAND.
