tive assembly of British Columbia will
be opened this afternoon by the lieu
tenant governor, attended by large
military staff, and with the usual cere

sions, but It contains a number of Im

the statutes and the reports of the
forestry commission and the Insurance
commission are . among the most Im

for a charter to ' extend the Portland
Canal Short Line to the eastern bound
ary of the province, to connect With
other lines at Edmonton. The proposed

OWEN RESOLUTION ON
LORIMER REFERRED

Washington, Jan. 12. When Senator
Owen's resolution, declaring the seat of
Senator Lorlmer of Illinois vacant, was
called up yesterday, it was referred to
the committee on privileges and elec
tions, which had already submitted a r
port exonerating Lotinier. ,
There was no protest against this ao
tion, Senators Owen and Beverldge, the
latter of whom filed a minority report
of the committee against Lorlmer, be
ing absent.

rooming house In connection with the
Anderson hotel in this city was opened
to the public Tuesday. This is one of
the best equipped and modernly con
structed buildings in the state. It Is
frame structure, lathed and plastered

practically fireproof. It eontalns 22

Sleeping room is thoroughly furnished

the contemplated new buildings to be
erected in this city during the coming

Johnston building how occupied by Goff
Bros., hardware dealers, the building
to be 60x100 feet. and. the latter will
erect a building of like dimensions, to
be located on Main street north of th
First National bank. Other owners of
business sites in Forest Grove have
signified their Intention to build this
year, but have given out no definite
