EARLY PEACHES
FLOOD EUHET:
Small vFruif . Rapidly Passing
' Out of Season Blackberry
Crop , Will Probably Be Quite
Small : '
... Berries are rapidly passing out- of,
eason and In a few days the fruit mar
ket will be oonflned to peaches, apples,
pears, apricots and plums. Cherries, too,
are on the down grade, although quits
a few Lamberts should arrive before the
elose of the season Is recorded.
Front street was practically bare' of
loganberries and raspberries this morn
ing, and the small quantity on hand
was not In the very best condition. The
hot weather of the past three days has
had a telling effect on. the fruit It Is
said, too, that the scorching heat will
have a serious effect on the blackberry
crop. A big percentage of the berries,
It Is feared, will be found to have been
damaged by the burning, sun. .. ,
Market leaded With Peaoi.es.
Commission houses -on Front street
are well supplied with-Oregon peaches
"and the- consequence Is low values.
Values- were quoted all the way 'from
; 860 to 90o a box this morning. The
peaches received so far are small and
.this has much to do with the values.
Apricots are plentiful, but they, too, are
unusually sma)l this year. .. ; , , j
'.-j':. ' Watsi Melons Soar, .-. . '
t Delay ? of trams from California
caused a shortage in, the water .melon
supply this morning.. Only one bouse
t had a few-melons this morning. - Two
t carloads are exDected In bv tomorrow.
i The melons Are selling at Ja . Canta
loupes are scares. Wvv; '?
OWokea : Market Strong,
Receipts of poultry are light and the
j demand for chickens continues brisk.
Apparently-the farmers are too busy
I with their, harvest to attend to the
, shipping of their chickens at this time.
i Flooding of the market with ducks has
ceased and the commission men feel
t that the farmers are doing right to hold
mem bacx at this time since the call
for ducks at this time of the year is
always light. v ...-
... The butter and egg markets remain
Unchanged. . . ,

New York Stock Market , Is
Marked by Quiet but Firm
Tone at Opening Irregular
at Close.
New fork, July 12 A quiet and firm
tone marked the opening of the stock
market today. Excepting Southern Pa
dfio, which rose 1, advances were
marked up. The metal stocks, barring
Anaconda, gained slightly. There was
a further advance as trading progressed.
A drive against Amalgamated Copper
forced It down on heavy offerings to 67,
the lowest figure of the year. St Paul
rose 1 and 1 point was rained by
Union Pacific, Reading, Rook Island and
Consolidated Gas. Extreme dullness
marked the dealings after the decline
in Amalgamated Copper, was arrested.
Bonds were irregular. The market
closed generally Irregular,
