Memorial serv ices for members of the grange who have passed away during tbe last 12 months were held Sunday afternoon at Montavllla. Four local granges com "blned the services provided by ritual to be held in memory of the faithful work ers who lay down -the burdens ot life. J. J. Johnson, for several years lecturer of the state grange, presided at tbe meeting, which was attended by nearly 200 members of the farmers' organiza tion and a number of friends. The memorial address wu delivered by Rev. "VV. J. Douglas, who spoke on the bene fits of cooperation and mutual helpful- " ness. Eulogies were given" by ; Rev. Horace Obert, Thomas Lewis, Mrs. G. A. Kelly and Mrs. H. I Vail. A splendid cnolr sang ft number of appropriate se lections. A feature of the service was a vocal solo by Miss Harriet Johnson. A class of girls dressed lit white gave a .pretty character selection. The granges represented were .Evening Btar, Wood land, Russellville and Lents. . , . Arrested la Denver Benjamin- Q, Linton, who was arrested In Denver yes terday at the request of local authori ties, will be returned to Portland in a day or two to face a grand larceny charge. Linton was traced through the medium of a baggage check when he ap peared at the station In Denver to claim his luggage. He was followed by De tectives Day and Hyde to Biggs. Or., and thence to Denver. Linton, who Is only 25 years of age, came to Portland during the Rose Festival with a com ranion of the same age,, Bert Bertlipll, both employed in the camp of the Utah Construction company, at Natron, or. They came to Portland to spend some of their earnings and Berthoil deposited $120 with a north end bartender. Holloway signed a confession after his arrest but he repudiated this on the Witness stand, saying he was afraid of the "third de gree." Flagg alleges that he was" walking along the south side of Stark near the theatre and his clothes were spattered - with paint entirely through the negligence of the workmen.
