After Fighting Gale for Days,
Bird Arrives at Coast Light
. Station in Exhausted Con-

Weary from breasting: a fierce north

miles, a carrier pigeon arrived at the
light station at Heceta Head, 40 miles
south' of Yaquina, 'bay,and1,betng too ex

known that the pigeon is one of - those
belonging to .the Oregon Homing- club
which was released recently Cither at
Leyland o-r Sifson, Cay. ' ,.' .'- '-..
. .Keeper Hansen nays, in his, communi
cation that the bird has apparently
come ft long distance? as it Is very poor
andwasln an almost exhausted condi
tion when It arrived at the station. The
strong northwest winds which have been
blowing along the coast for the last
week or so, , accompanied by heavy- fog,
evidently got the bird off its course
and it probably got some distance out
to sea. It has a ring on each foot, one
being of white f metal, marked P. B.
5 3713, while the other is unmarked and
1 i of brass.
Several Birds MiSiingV
E. H. Bower, a member of the Oregon
Homing club, Identified the pigeon as
one belonging, to. ft .member of the club,
tut he was unable to nay who the owner
s from the number. He thinks that, it
la one of those released at Blsson a, week
.ago today, of which there are 15 on the
way. He tayt that this. Is the worst
year they have had and a large number
of birds have, been lost,' , probably due
to the bad weather. They, usually make
the 300 mile flight in about eight and
a half hoursr but this year they have
benft week on the way already.
