Shortly before noon yesterday the Jury returned a verdict of guilty against John C. Maybray, Leon Loser. Thomas S. Rob-I inson, Vlllard Powell. Clarence Chase. Edward Leach, Edward K. Morris (col ored). Clarence Forbes, Harry Forbes, Frank Scott, Edward McCoy, W. S. Har ris, Bert R. Shores and William Marsh. The latter three practically pleaded guilty far, to the charge. Two years' Imprison- j C ment and a fine of $10,000 Is the maxl- ' mum penalty that can he Inflicted In 1 each case. The Maybray gang had laid carefully i and broadly plans to rob people through ' prize fighting, foot racing, wrestling, j wire tapping, horseraeing and other I sporting events. The scheme compre hended work In every state and in all the large cities. since the fierce war against the tra began several years ago. It Is easy to understand how difficult It is for a race track In tho east to make money since ' the regular betting was barred. Every race goer probably knows that one of the biggest revenues of a trac k in the old days came from tho bookmakers, who paid high for their priv ilege.
