Denny's application, however, received favorable action from tha com mlttee yesterday, ' Other restaurant HQ uor lloenses refused to applicants-yes terday by the committee were those of Tin Kin Lura, StVfc Fourth . street, and Fred Woodhouse. 364 Davis street The request of the "White Corner," another notorious restaurant," was also turned down. : Boyson A Wertemberger, ' 275 Crosby street, were also denied the privilege of selling liquor with food. . Two Chinese restaurants that have been conducted In violation .of - the ordinanoe which pro hibits boxes were also granted licenses on condition that the boxes, which they have maintained, shall be removed. These restaurants are the Pekin, Sixth and Stark streets, and the Royal Canton grill. Alder and Park streets. When the council meets tomorrow a strong fight will bo made by the liquor sellers Whose licenses were denied by the com mittee and, if past action is any prece dent, the recommendations of the com mittee may not be followed. The figures go to show that while Washington had several times as many fires as Oregon, yet the ramage , was less. Washington authorities ascribe this to a more complete system of fire tletectlon and fire fighting. As the bugs bore and tho trees burn, however, the damage Is apt each year to become worse. E. T. .Allen., representing the Western Forestry and Conservation as sociation, told of the ambition enter italned by the new organisation to affil iate more closely and organise the state conservation association for mutual ad vance, protection and benefit That the Western Forestry and Conservation as sociation, which held its first meeting in Spokane, Is an organiastion for the people and not alone for timber own ers, was not left nnomphasised by Mr. Allen. He also called particular atten tion to plans Which are being formu lated to prepare for the next. crop of timber. The quick growth makes such a plan feasible In this country., and It makes not only for conservation but for com munity good. F. C. Tha heavy majority la attributed to tha promlaea of the Business Men's league, who agreed to out tha number of sa loons to one for each thouaand people, one In each block; double tha revenue and clean out tha dlvea.
