Upon the request of Harbormaster Fpeler, the United 8tates engineers' snag boat, Mathloma, was -sent out this morning to remove some snags - that were brought down into the harbor by the recent freshet Two extremely large ones, which were a decided men- ice to navigation were taken out of tha river between the Burneide and Morrison street bridges and others will , 9e removed in different parts of the harbor during the .day. By night Cap- rain Speier aays the harbor will be well' cleared of snags. The Mathloma will return to tha government moorings as loon as the work is done. paB-Bals The British bark Gulf Stream, which went on the drydock Fri day for a survey after going aground November 25 at the old Vlllard dock. The Mascot has been on the Lewis river until she was leased by tha Ore gon City Transportation company, and the steamer Undine has been put on tha run In her place, having left for Lewis river points Saturday afternoon. She is in command of Captain McNeill, form erly master on tha steamer Mascot, Barges Ave been placed on each side of the steamer ;Oreeona, and the tork of raising' her' lias commenced. As soon aa ahe is floated she will be brought down to the Portland shipyards where she will be repaired preparatory to suing ua uer run again. He Is accused of striking his--brother, James McLinden over the head with a picket.- The broth er died several hours after the fight. The original report was ' given out that he had died from heart trouble, superinduced by excitement In the fight". This was the physician's state ment.
