The case was filed In the circuit court. ays Husband Stole Diamonds Fol lowing the arrest of Chester Graves on a charge of larceny preferred by his wife, who desires to regain possession of several diamonds. Graves will soon be charged with another offense. Graves was arrested by Constable Wagner yes terday and Is now In the county jail. Ills wife says the diamonds are worth 11200. Gets Job as Hunter Lewis Grove of Cottage Grove. Or., has received an sp nointment as a hunter in the Malheur national forest. Mr. Grove's duties will be to hunt and destroy the predatory animals of this forest that are so de structive to the flocks and herds of the ranges of eastern Oregon. Several other hunters have been appointed for duty on.a number of the Oregon forests. Missionaries to lactura W. A. Hun nex and his wife, missionaries of the Church of God, will speak at the af ternoon and the evening service to morrow at Carpenters' Union hall, Grand avenue and East Pine streets. Mr. and Mrs. Hunnex are on their way to China to take up missionary work. Services will be held at 2:30 and 7:30 p. m. Charles H. Wopdard. i Charles H. Woodard, long and. well known in Portland and prominently con nected with tha wholesale and retail drug business, died 'at his home, the Morrison hotel, yesterday afternoon of apoplexy. Mr. Woodard had apparently been In the best of health until Thurs day hlght when he Buffered an attack of what aeemed to be rheumatism. Fri day he was no better and was. sitting In a nhol, lr .Via wtnHnw wh.n hta Xuftk entered the room and found him dead. His family physician was hastily sum moned, but he was found to be beyond medical aid. Mr. Woodard was born In western New York. and came to this city In 1865., He was first employed with Hodge Calif f & Co.. a' retail drug firm. When he 'started In business for him self he opened a retail drug store un der the name of C. H. - Woodard & Co.( at Front and Alder streets? which at the time of the big fire was destroyed. He then opened a store at First , and Alder and took into partnership Mr. Quiver, now deceased. His partnership with Lewis G. Clarke under tne firm name of Woodard, Clarke & Co., was formed In 1880. From 1885 to 1895. he was also en gaged In the wholesale drug business under the names of Reddlngton, wood ard & Co., and later the Snell, Heltahu & Woodard company. During this time he disposed of his holdings In -the re tail business and later aoia -out nis wholesale Interests - also and opened a surgical Instrument store which he af terward sold alsd. During the past few years he had been giving his Alms to nis private ventures. i Mr. Woodard Is survived by his sec ond wife and a daughter by his first marriage. Mrs. F. O. Downing, The funeral will be held from the Masonic cathedral at 2 o'clock Sunday after noon under the auspices of the Masons, of which body Mr. Woodard was a member. Merrill's hall. " The public night school closed last night with a program rendered at the Llncaln High school by members of the different classes, and with the presen tation to the principal, O. W. Hender son, of a handsome chair. The pro gram was made up of vocal numbers, recitations and Instrumental selections. A German chorus was the first number, followed by an encore. Herman Feeden gave a recitation, Robert Isler followed with a cornet solo, a humorous dialoeue was given by two students. 8. Malnar- off read a paper entitled "My Opinion of the -Night School," Samuel Humosky sang a Russian song, and Fred Boyn- ton gave a tenor solo. The next num ber was a recitation by John Bauman. The principals' quartet sang "Until the Dawn" and responded to an encore. Hans Bachll played a cither solo, Sam uel Humosky gave a recitation. Mr. Taras sang a Finnish song and Joseph j iaazzamni piayea a cornet soio. The program closed with a medley of national airs of all nations. The night school has had a most successful . year- and has been largely attended by foreigners who are .learn ing to speak and read English, as well as many mechanics and laborers who feel the need of better education and who are at work during the day.
