Nam pa. Idaho, Feb. 21. Mrs. Roa
Wilson of Caldwell passed through here
today with her -two ? children, la ; ' a
wagon drawn by two emaciated ponies.
enroute overland 26F miles to " St.
Anthony, in the eastern part of the
state, where her other two children are.
confined at the reform school. The
case or me mother going in this fash
ion, and the deplorable condition Of
herself and children recalls a pathetic
story, the like of which is seldom met
with. -. .
Mrs. Wilson was left homeless and
penniless about a year ago by her hus
band In the town of Caldwell. She had
a little team of ponies, an-old, wagon,
and four , children, aged three, eight,
18 and 16. She began to make a living
by cutting and hauling aage brush to
town to sell for firewood. In the
work she gained . the name of "Sage
Brush Rosa." -The home of the familv
waa in a Very uncomfortable old shack
not far from the city limits.
When school began in the fall she
waa unable to send the children on ac
count of not having clothes for them.
After the children had failed to attend
for several weeks the mother was no
tified that they must ' go or the law
would be brought to bear. They started
to school, but the city authorities con-
ciuoea mat tne cnuaren were growing
up in Ignorance and poverty and that
tney snouid te sent to the reform
school.
