DARK DESAiX II hod mm Brings a Cargo of Cemen and Miscellaneous Articles. MAKES SLOW VOYAGE v ; BY LONGEST ROUTE Jxtt Batch Port July 18 Followed by the French Bark Alice Pleasant . Weather and Opportunity for Mite age Incentive for Long Voyages. The French bark Desalx crossed in yesterday ,. afternoon, having been olf the mouth of the Columbia about four hours. Khe Is from Antwerp with a cargo or . cement ana : general rrelglit from Antwerp. , The cargo-is consigned to Balfour, Outhrie & Co. t The Desaix left Antwerp July" 18, and hence was fully due, having been out more than six months. The average run for a sailing vessel from Antwerp to the - Columbia' is - about 160 days, al though It has been made In much quick er time. Two fast passages were made from Bremon to the Columbia river this season by the two German training ships Herzogln Cecllie and Heraogin Charlotte, the former making the run In ,110 days and the latter In 112.- But these ships are manned with young and trained seamen, whose main object is to bring out the very best speed there Is In their ships. The Desaix came out by way of Cape of Good Hope and Hovarf, a much long er distance than had ahe doubled Cape Horn. But by taking the longer pas sage the bark escaped the terrible weather that nearly always rages In the vicinity of the Horn. Spreading canvas down the Atlantic up the Indian ocean and across the Paoiflo with the trade winds, is said to be a summer outing as compared witn tne coia ana oiny weather that has to be endured off Cape Horn. "At times it takes a couple of months to make thb short distance from the Atlantic to the Pacific off the cliffs Of Terra del Fuego, and it is this part of the voyage that the French skippers avoid by taking the longer route. Another French bark, the Alice. due to arrive here any oat irom ahiwoiii. She left there about 10 days later tha the Desaix. . The display of foreign birds this year is considerably larger than usual. can- U'ney av twnied by millions on everything wo eat, drink and wear, The air is alive with them. Medical science has proven In the past few years that nearly every disease la a germ disease. Such disease germs enter Into the blood in two ways, either through the lungs or stomach. If the blood Is pure and rich, the lhr and stomach in healthy, active condition, the germs of disease cannot find a resting place there to mul tiply. Diseases of the lungs, bronchitis and consumption, grip and pneumonia, are very apt to spread through a factory where there is much fine dust In the air. The lungs become Irritated and the germs find a fertile field for growth. Extreme weakness, feelings of nervous exhaustion, coughs and colds are the warning signals which should be heeded. One should put the system in the very best possible con dition right away.
