Ht. Luke church Grants Pass, and
Rev. Roy Kdgar Remington of 1 All
Saints church, , Portland.
The ceremonies by v which the three
candidates were advanced to the priest
hood were t held in the pro cathedral
yesterday morning, being conducted by
Bishop Bcadding. Rev. Horace Ramsey,
rector of the pro -cathedral, delivered
the sermon. He spoke of the duty of
those who became priests of the church,
told how necessary the priesthood was
In the worlc of the church and pointed
out the esteem In which the priesthood
should be held by the people at large.
The candidates - were : presented by
Rev. George B. Van Waters. The three
men were brought, to jOregon by Biwhop
tfradding from the cast year ago to
aid him. In- the plan. ..which he ...has
mapped out for the extension of the
work of. the Episcopal church through
out the state.
Rev. Remington la .from Rochester," N.
T.. He studied for three years in the
Kpiscopal theological school at' Cam
bridge, Mass. Whita- attending that
school he did a great deal of work at
a mission church 'at Farming-ham.- He
became a deacon last June at Middle
ton. -Conn., being given the order1 by
Bishop Brewer. Since that time he has
been in charge of All Saints church of
Portland. -. "- --
' Mr. Bartlett is from South Manches
ter. Conn. He holds a degree, of A. B.
from Trinity college and B. D. from
the theological school at Cambridge.
Ha was -given the -order --by Bishop
Brewer at.Mlddleton Jast.June and. since1
that time - has been in - charge of St. i
Luke's mission at Grants Pass.
- Rev.- Dorranee--is -from' Providence,
R. I. . He is a graduate 'of Harvard and
also of the theological school at Cam
bridge. He was ordained -deacon last
June by Bishop McVicar at Providence,
and since that time has been in charge
of the Trinity church : mission at Asn
land. a

Resolutions indorsing Mayor Lane's
attitude in regard to the municipal
lighting plant were unanimously adopt
ed after much discussion. :

structed to Institute proceedings which
will secure the expenditure of some of
the park funds on the peninsula.
The committee on streetcar service In
Its report' recommended the' Indorse
ment of the "No Smoking" rule:' the
demanding of a 0 minute service night
and morning, and a It minute service
during the day: the enforcement of the

PRISONERS SET FIRE
TO NEWPORT'S JAIL
Newport, Or.; Dec Jl.-Three men
confined In the city Jail accidentally set

arrival of the fire - department that
saved them from a horrible death. The
fire which they built to keep them
warm quickly spread to the woodwork
and the prisoners, who were drunk, were
