"The French bark Crlllon reached th
Columbia river yesterday, afternoon
from LiverDool via Hobart.' Tasmania.
In ballast, under charter to load wheat
for Europe. 'She made the entire trip
without a pound of freight in the hold
and the owners will have to make their
profit on the freight home and the
liberal mileage bounty of their govern
went.
' The Crlllon ts the second French ship
to come here in ballast this season from
Ku rope. to load wheat. Prior to the
time France Introduced Its bounty sys
tern -ship owners would never have
thought of sending vessel such & dis
tance In .ballast unless homeward
freight were exceptionally high for the
outward run would eat up the profits of
, ine home run. ut it has been figured
out that a French windjammer could
actually sail around the earth and come
( home f2000 to the good without handling
a pouna 01 ir eigne.
The Crlllon ha .been here . several
time before. 6he left Hobart October

here during the weok under similar con
ditions, having come all the way from
Dublin, Ireland, In ballast for a wheat
cargo. The Armen left Hobart about
a week after-the Crlllon. had set sails.
There are two more French barks
heading; for this, port from Hobart, one
of them being; the Nantes, which was
.here last fall. She left the Tasmanian
port November 1J. The other Is the
Thiers, which left llobart November 10.
She will be longer coming here, how
