"An Indiana Romance" Good news was received at 325 Cham ber of Commerce, the office of the Butte Boys Consolidated Mining com pany, this morning, -when Manager Bever opened hl mall to find that the company's : lease on the Florence bad been extended to the first of July at midnight, r The - parent company" bad voted not to extend any more leases, but In consequence of Mr. Bever's falth ; fulness and diligence In prosecuting development, an exception has been -made in the Butte Boys case, as with one or two others for like reasons. It now seems certain that the Butte Boys will, within a very short time, step Into the class - that has produced so fabu lously from leases on this ground, The property Immediately -.. adjoining the Butte Boys last week broke into ore that actually mills as high as 1300,000 to the ton, and is now turning out quarts that win soon make all Its stockholders fortunes. In this one week It has paid all It cost its owners, -and .everything from this time on will be velvet for those who own its shares. The rich ore body which is turning out all this wealth is headed directly for the Butte Boys, and will be encountered within a short time just how soon it is impos sible to say, but the time may be days or hours only. It has been freely pre dicted for some time that the Butte Boys would yet surprise Its stockhold ers, and that date seems to now tte not far away. Before the good news was received certain of its stockholders do nated 60,000 shares of their own hold ings, and these are being sold at 4 cents per share. - Had the facts been known before the new disclosures were made the price would "have been probably three or four times this figure. Fortu nate ones fare picking up this bargain, which seems likely to prove a most profitable Investment, - Mayor Lane announced this morning that a special meeting of the council will be called Saturday morning at 9:30 - o'clock for the purpose of passing on the annual budget. The mayor is still busily at work on his yearly report. He would not say what recommendations be will make. It is understood, though, that the demands made by various de- jjai imoii i i r ui Mesa ox. ints Bum that will be available at the maximum levy allowed by the charter. The city Hsessor has not yet completed his city tax roll, but the increase above last rear's Is estimated at not more than 3,000.000. The maximum increase In the appropriations possible Is therefore only 1210.000, which Is not sufficient to meet the additional requirements of the different departments. The prob lem Before-the council will be where to cut down expenses. The Portland Festival chorus met last night and completed organization. The officers of the society, with the addi tion of K. 8.
